We’ve been hearing a lot about the Puffy mattress over the past few months, so we decided to take a closer look and provide you guys with our unbiased and impartial opinion on it.
Today we’re going to look at the components of the Puffy mattress and see what makes them special (or not so special). We’re also going to talk about things like price, warranty, and we’re going to answer some frequently asked questions too.
To conclude we’ll review the product as a whole and provide you with our expert opinion and recommendation.
Let’s get started.
Key Components To The Puffy Mattress
The Puffy mattress is a little bit strange in terms of components. It’s technically a hybrid product as it contains layers of different materials – which is normal…
What’s not so normal is that the Puffy only has two layers, which at first set a few alarm bells ringing here at the office.
First Layer – Comfort Cloud Layer
To be totally honest, this 4-inch-thick layer is responsible for pretty much every positive aspect of the Puffy mattress. It’s made from an extremely complex and innovative material (called Comfort Cloud) that Puffy spent over 4 years developing. They have tested, refined, and modified the chemical composition and manufacturing methods of this material countless times – and quite honestly, the results were worth their effort.
Comfort Cloud is a material that is very similar to memory foam in some respects. For example, it has the same kind of contouring properties (just with some notable improvements). The main improvement that struck us in terms of contouring was the speed with which the process happens.
You may already know that with standard memory foam products it can take a little while before the contouring is completed when you lie down. This is because it takes a little heat to fully activate (and soften) memory foam to get the full supportive effect.
This isn’t the case with Comfort Cloud, and within a couple of seconds of getting into bed you’ll be fully supported. The benefits of this are most notable when you change position slightly as you drift off to sleep – if you’ve slept on a normal memory foam bed before you’ll certainly appreciate this.
Comfort Cloud may be similar to memory foam in terms of contouring – but it’s completely different in terms of cooling and thermal regulation.
You may already know about the overheating problems of memory foam. It’s a material that’s usually made of lots of little pockets of air that are completely enclosed. These pockets of air are how memory foam conforms to your body shape before snapping back to normal. The air inside these pockets heats up from your body heat throughout the night and creates uncomfortable hotspots underneath the sleeper.
As Comfort Cloud is not memory foam, it doesn’t use pockets of air for its contouring – and as such it doesn’t have these overheating issues. What’s more, Comfort Cloud has been specifically designed to have a huge amount of airflow throughout the layer. This means that when body heat is absorbed by the air it can escape the mattress into the bedroom with a minimal amount of resistance (taking the heat with it).
Normally this would be more than enough cooling technology for a mattress to stay cool – but this isn’t a normal mattress.
One of the ways that engineers have tried to solve the memory foam overheating problem is through the use of cooling gels. The concept behind them is quite simple, they’re great thermal conductors and they absorb your body heat instead of it going into the foam. This spreads the heat out throughout the gel across the entire mattress and creates a more uniform heat distribution pattern – eliminating hotspots.
Despite Comfort Cloud not being a memory foam product, Puffy have decided to use a similar kind of cooling gel technology to further cool down the sleeping surface. Again, this is no normal cooling gel and Puffy use their patent pending “Cooling Cloud” system instead.
Cooling Cloud has been designed to operate at optimal temperatures instead of going full steam ahead with cooling. Without this feature, it’s possible the sleeping surface would be too cold – which is a very rare thing for us to be saying.
In fact, I can’t recall if we’ve ever said that before in the history of this site…
Second Layer – Support Layer
As is often the case, Puffy is talking up this layer trying to make it sound more advanced than it actually is. It’s a standard 6-inch-thick layer of high-density support foam that’s not all that interesting.
It’s a high-quality material, and we believe that it works well in tandem with the Comfort Cloud layer above. However, the reason it harmonizes well with the layer above is not because of the support layer…
It’s because the Comfort Cloud layer has been specifically designed to work with it instead.
That being said, there’s nothing wrong with the support layer. It’s durable, sturdy, and provides a solid base for the mattress that allows it to be used on a variety of different bed frames.
Puffy Mattress Coupons
If you visit Puffy’s website, you’ll see a ticking clock at the bottom of the screen. This is supposedly the amount of time you’ve got to receive a $200 discount – after which you won’t be able to use it anymore.
As you might have guessed, this isn’t actually the case. You can simply visit the website again on another device (or clear your cookies) and you’ll be eligible for the discount again. There’s no code required to get the $200 off, it’s automatically applied to the prices when you check out.

Puffy Mattress Review
So now we know all about the amazing Comfort Cloud layer, the reasonably average base layer, and the pricing/discount options available to us. So what do we think overall about the Puffy? Is it a good product? Can we recommend it?
Let’s find out in our Puffy review section…
The two layers of the Puffy have been painstakingly designed to work hand in hand with one another to create a super supportive product. There’s adaptive support technology at play here that really sets it apart from other products in this price bracket.
Puffy have attempted to make you “forget that you’re sleeping on a mattress” with this adaptive system. It reacts to the amount of pressure being applied, getting firmer when it needs to be firmer, and softer when it needs to be softer.
This means it’s a great choice for people with joint issues or who wake up with a little pain in the morning. Top marks for the Puffy from us in this section, we can’t see any improvements that we’d make – even if we were being picky.
Again the Puffy does exceptionally well in the cooling department. We still can’t quite believe that they’ve actually had to develop their Cooling Cloud gel to ensure the sleeping surface stays at an optimal temperature instead of being “too cold”.
Needless to say, this proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is one of the coolest sleeping surfaces on the planet – in any price bracket. The warmest sleeper in the world could go to bed in the middle of a summer heatwave on this product and still get a cool night’s sleep…
As you might expect, with a material called “Comfort Cloud” making up a huge amount of this product – it’s a pretty darn comfortable mattress. Again we’re going to point to the “you’re going to forget you are sleeping on a mattress” claim that Puffy like to plaster over their website – because we think it’s true.
There’s an amazing amount of loft to the sleeping surface and there’s a genuine feeling luxury similar to what you’d expect at a fancy hotel. It’s a responsive mattress that has a little bit of bounce to it (but not too much). The body adapting support tech cradles you in all the right places with the right amount of pressure.
We love how it feels to sleep on this product, and we think you will too.
We think that Puffy is spot on with their pricing. There’s one super advanced, super expensive layer of material that took 4 years to develop – and there’s one reasonably standard boring layer that’s cheap yet high quality.
You are basically only paying Puffy for the development costs and materials of the Comfort Cloud layer. The base layer costs next to nothing in terms of materials in the kind of quantity Puffy will be purchasing it at.
However, with the $200 discount that Puffy currently gives to each customer, this fairly priced product turns into a bargain.
There are other products on the market that offer a similar level of performance at this price point – but there aren’t many of them…

Commonly Asked Questions:
Does The Puffy Mattress Come With A Warranty?
Yes! The Puffy comes with an incredible lifetime warranty that will cover you against sagging or manufacturing defects for as long as you own the mattress. A quick call to their US-based call center will have them come out within a few days, collect your old mattress, and replace it with a new one.
Is The Puffy Mattress A Firm Or Soft Mattress?
The Puffy is a medium firm product that has a soft feel to it (yet is reasonably firm) and it has been rated around 6.5 on the firmness scale. It’s going to be an enjoyable firmness for the vast majority of people reading this (unless you have specific firm or soft tastes).
Does The Puffy Mattress Sleep Hot Or Cold?
See the review section above – this is easily one of the coolest mattresses on the planet.
How Long Will The Puffy Mattress Last?
The Puffy will easily last 15 years without any issues.
Is The Puffy Mattress Good For A Side, Stomach Or Back Sleeper?
One of the main aims Puffy set out to achieve with their advanced comfort cloud layer was to create a mattress that was great for everyone – regardless of their sleeping position. It was probably one of the most difficult parts of designing this product because different sleeping positions have vastly different needs.
The Comfort Cloud layer removes and compensates for much of the pressure that side sleepers feel on their hips and shoulders. But at the same time, it allows for proper spinal alignment of stomach and back sleepers. It’s an amazing material in an amazing mattress, and being suitable for all 3 sleeping positions must be extremely profitable for Puffy.
We Recommend The Puffy Mattress For Someone That:
Sleeps Hot – The cooling technology in this mattress is miles ahead of most other products on the market. If you have a real problem with running hot throughout the night – this is the product that should be at the top of your shortlist.
Wants A Bargain – With the generous $200 “time-limited” discount Puffy promote on their site this is a seriously under-priced mattress. If you’re reading this and that discount is still being offered, you’re getting an incredible amount of mattress for your money.
So there you have it, that’s what we think about the Puffy mattress.
It’s quite honestly an amazing product, but what really impresses us is the Comfort Cloud material itself. It’s a one-stop shop that provides all of the benefits we’ve talked about toady single handed (more or less). It took Puffy 4 years to create the material, but it’s been well worth their effort in our opinion.
We can easily recommend this mattress, and we strongly suggest that you add it to your shortlist – it is more than worthy of your consideration.
